S3RVE Day SHOUT OUT: Go Raibh Maith Agaibh!

Serve the City would like to shout from Dublin’s rooftops ‘THANKYOU!’ to all of our fantastic volunteers – about 25 in total – who came out to S3RVE this last Saturday! Because of you, hope and dignity have been successfully delivered to at least four Dublin area citizens. And that’s not counting the neighbours, caretakers, and family members of those whom we served and whose smiles represent the ripple effect that voluntary, compassionate service can have in a community.

Not only did you serve as couriers of hope, dignity, and compassion, but we’re confident that each one of you were also recipients of those virtues in the very act of serving. It was exceedingly evident in the smiles on your faces as you waved goodbye and turned to walk back to your cars or bus stops.

Our next S3RVE Day will happen on the 18th of June. What’s Next in the New Year: S3RVE Days, Fundraisers, & A Clothing Swap

We’ve launched into 2011 with a lot of developments and loads of new opportunities to serve. This Saturday, a team of about 8 volunteers will be helping with a number of maintenance jobs for a family in need in the Crumlin area.Next Saturday, the 22nd, a clothing swap is being held in Our Lady’s School Clonskeagh and will include maternity clothes, children’s clothing/shoes, and used toys in good condition. More details to come!Also, for our April Third Saturday S3RVE Day, one of the options to serve will include a bag packing fundraiser in a local supermarket. Funds raised will go toward meeting more needs and mobilising more volunteers through Serve the City!

Greeting Autumn with a Serve

It’s been a great start to the autumn for Serve the City. Our Third Saturday S3RVE Days initiative launched on the 18th of September. Despite the light rain, our volunteers did some heavy gardening work for three elderly folks in Templeogue and Crumlin. This last Saturday, another group of our finest volunteers did a combination of interior decorating and gardening for three more elderly friends.

The second weekend in October, we hosted a corporate group of eight volunteers from a large Dublin-based company. The team did a fantastic job of clearing out an overgrown garden for a needy family in Ballybrack. They were delighted to help, knowing that their hours of service were also an encouragement to other neighbours who had reached out to support this family in a number of ways.

Third Saturday SERVE Day Update

It’s been a busy springtime for Serve the City here in Dublin and the last two months have provided some brilliant opportunities to serve a number of communities in the Dublin metro area.

In April, we had a team of 5 paint a front room, kitchen, and entry way in a flat on Pearse St. for a lovely man who is quite ill. On the same day, a team of about 6 did some interior painting for a single mum in Crumlin. This last Saturday, a small team returned to the flat in Pearse St. to put gloss on the doors and paint a small bathroom. Another group helped clean out a house in Ballyfermot that had been neglected for some time due to extended hospital stays for the parents of two young boys.

Our next “Third Saturday SERVE Day” is scheduled for the 19th of June. Be sure if to let us know if you’re interested in joining us!

Third Saturday SERVE Day (April 2010)

Thanks to all of our volunteers who came out to serve during our Third Saturday Serve Day in March. Between the service opportunities in Greystones, Dun Laoghaire, and Crumlin, we had about 18 volunteers total.

This month, we’re back at it again with a number of different of opportunities to serve on Saturday the 17th. One of our service projects will be painting a kitchen for a woman in Crumlin. We are also looking into another painting project for an elderly man around the Pearse Street area of the city centre and a gardening project in Tallaght.
